Hello, I'm the pharmacist at Suwon Star Pharmacy.
Some people look for liquid (syrup-type) painkillers when menstrual pain or a headache strikes — especially those who find tablets hard to swallow, or who feel they want something that absorbs a little faster. When they come to the pharmacy, though, a common question is: "Are these three all the same thing?" 파인큐아세트펜시럽, 파인큐이부펜시럽, and 파인큐나프록센현탁액 — the names look similar, but each one contains a completely different active ingredient.

To put it simply: acetaminophen can be thought of as a 'syrup version of 타이레놀,' ibuprofen as a 'syrup version of 부루펜,' and naproxen as a 'syrup version of 탁센.'
Even within the same painkiller category, different active ingredients mean different dosing intervals, different groups who need to take caution, and different applicable age ranges for children — so it's important to tell them apart.

Which one might be worth considering in which situation? |
Acetaminophen (파인큐아세트펜시럽) — It tends to be relatively gentler on the stomach. It is generally known for fever-reducing and pain-relieving effects rather than anti-inflammatory action, and is widely used for cold symptoms, headaches, and menstrual pain. The pediatric dosage is broken down by body weight starting from 4 months of age, so households raising young children sometimes keep it on hand. However, it is important not to exceed a maximum of 4,000mg per day, and you should avoid taking it together with other products that also contain acetaminophen.
Ibuprofen (파인큐이부펜시럽) — As an NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug), it is known as an ingredient that can also be expected to have anti-inflammatory effects. Its approved indications in South Korea are comparatively broad, covering arthritis, sprains, soft-tissue injuries, and dysmenorrhea. A pediatric dosage exists, but because it may cause gastrointestinal irritation, it is advisable to avoid taking it on an empty stomach. It should not be taken during the late stage of pregnancy (the last 3 months).
Naproxen (파인큐나프록센현탁액) — This is likewise an NSAID. Its approved indications in South Korea include more specialized conditions such as migraines, acute gout, and tendinitis, and its dosing interval is comparatively long at every 12 hours. Safety has not been established for children 2 years of age or younger, making it closer to an adult-oriented painkiller.

What does it taste like? |
I actually tried all three products myself, and they all had a sweet taste — so as syrups go, they weren't unpleasant to take.
That said, 파인큐아세트펜시럽 and 파인큐이부펜시럽 both tasted quite sweet to me, while 파인큐나프록센현탁액 had a more moderate sweetness that I found pleasant. Of course, how sweet something tastes and how it feels to take can vary from person to person.
In particular, each sachet of 파인큐나프록센현탁액 is 10mL, so the volume itself is small — personally, I found it easy to take in one go.

Things to keep in mind when taking these products |
For all three products, if you drink three or more glasses of alcohol every day, you should be sure to consult a pharmacist or doctor first. Ibuprofen and naproxen, being NSAIDs, carry additional cautions regarding gastrointestinal bleeding and cardiovascular effects, while acetaminophen requires attention to liver burden. If you develop severe stomach pain, a rash, or hives while taking any of these, stop and let your pharmacist know. As a guideline, if symptoms persist or worsen — beyond 3 days for fever or 10 days for pain (5 days for children) — it is a good idea to consult a healthcare professional.
Staying hydrated and getting enough rest can also help with recovery — something worth keeping in mind. 🙂

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) |
Q. Can 파인큐아세트펜시럽 and 파인큐이부펜시럽 be taken together? Acetaminophen and ibuprofen belong to different ingredient classes, so alternating between them is sometimes discussed, but the specific schedule can vary depending on other medications you are taking and your health condition. If you have both on hand, it is safest to tell your pharmacist about the medications you are taking and your symptoms and ask for advice.
Q. Can children take 파인큐 naproxen? Based on the approved product information (in South Korea), it is advisable that those below adulthood do not take it. If a pediatric painkiller is needed, please use 파인큐아세트펜시럽 (from 4 months of age) or 파인큐이부펜시럽 (from age 1), both of which have specified pediatric dosages.
Q. Which one should I choose for menstrual pain? All three products include menstrual pain (dysmenorrhea) among their approved indications in South Korea. If your stomach is sensitive, avoid taking them on an empty stomach. If you are on other medications or have a specific health condition, a pharmacist can also check for ingredient overlaps — so if you share information about the medications you are currently taking, more precise guidance can be provided.
Since dosing intervals, groups requiring caution, and applicable age ranges differ by active ingredient, it is important to choose based on the ingredient rather than just the product name. If you are unsure, let your pharmacist know which medications you are taking and what your symptoms are, and they can also check for ingredient overlaps at the same time.
The 3 파인큐 products introduced today — the squeeze-pack 타이레놀 equivalent, squeeze-pack 부루펜 equivalent, and squeeze-pack 탁센 equivalent — are over-the-counter medicines in South Korea and cannot be sold or purchased online.
They can only be purchased in person at a pharmacy, and for exact pricing, please inquire at the pharmacy where you plan to buy them.
That concludes this post.
