콘택콜드 is

an over-the-counter capsule formulation used to relieve symptoms caused by the common cold (acute rhinitis), allergic rhinitis, and sinusitis.

It comes in capsule form and is classified as an over-the-counter medicine.

✔ Nasal congestion

✔ Runny nose

✔ Sneezing

✔ Watery eyes

✔ Sore throat (throat pain)

✔ Heavy-headed feeling

It is a combination formula used to relieve these symptoms.

콘택콜드 is a typical combination rhinitis and cold medicine made up of the following three main ingredients.

1) Belladonna total alkaloid (Belladonna total alkaloid)

Involved in reducing secretions

A component that may be helpful when a runny nose persists

Due to its anticholinergic action, side effects such as dry mouth, constipation, and urinary discomfort may occur; patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia or glaucoma should consult a pharmacist or doctor before taking it.

2) Chlorpheniramine maleate (Chlorpheniramine maleate)

Antihistamine ingredient

Relieves allergy-like symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, and watery eyes

Drowsiness may occur as a side effect, so caution is needed before driving or performing tasks that require concentration.

3) Pseudoephedrine

An ingredient that helps relieve nasal congestion by constricting blood vessels inside the nose

Involved in clearing a stuffy, blocked nose

Side effects of drowsiness or stimulation/wakefulness may occur.

​

These three ingredients work together

to form a well-balanced formulation that broadly relieves cold and rhinitis symptoms.

So how exactly does the existing 콘택골드 differ from the newly relaunched 콘택콜드?

​

The main active ingredient has been changed from phenylephrine hydrochloride to pseudoephedrine hydrochloride.

​

This is part of a broader trend following the US FDA's 'proposal' to discontinue oral use of phenylephrine (Phenylephrine), commonly used in cold medicines, on the grounds that it does not demonstrate sufficient efficacy when taken orally. As a result, products containing phenylephrine are gradually being reformulated in South Korea as well.

​

Although the ingredient has changed, the indications and effects remain the same.

In addition, the previously meaningless dosages for those under 15 years of age — such as 2/3 capsule — have been removed, while the original dose of 1 capsule for those aged 15 and over has been retained, so overall there is no significant difference.

✔ Adults and those aged 15 and over: 1 capsule per 1 dose, 3 times per 1 day (after meals)

Taking the prescribed dose on a regular schedule

helps reduce sudden nasal congestion and increased nasal discharge.
