슈퍼라민 우르스정 vs 콰트로정: What Is the Difference?

"I heard 슈퍼라민 comes in two versions — what's the difference between 우르스 and 콰트로?" It's a question we hear at the pharmacy. The names are similar and both are combination products containing B-complex vitamins, so it's easy to get confused.

To give you the short answer: the difference between the two isn't about strength — it's about which ingredients each product emphasizes. 우르스 focuses on the liver, while 콰트로 focuses on nerve vitamins and magnesium.

Both products are over-the-counter medicines in South Korea, and their approved indications overlap in the broad category of vitamin supplementation for physical fatigue, during pregnancy and breastfeeding, and during or after illness when physical strength is reduced.

콰트로정 additionally carries South Korean approval for vitamin D supplementation, development of bones and teeth, and prevention of rickets. The amounts listed below are all based on 1 tablet (1 day's dose).

우르스정 contains ursodeoxycholic acid 50mg, plus several liver-related ingredients such as orotic acid, glucuronolactone, and betaine, putting its emphasis on the liver.

콰트로정, on the other hand, contains ursodeoxycholic acid at 10mg, and is formulated with nerve vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamin + mecobalamin), 3 types of magnesium, and vitamin D.

The combined active-ingredient content of B1 is also higher in 콰트로.

슈퍼라민우르스정 contains 9 types of B-complex vitamins, including 5 active forms. Its defining feature is that it also incorporates 6 liver-related ingredients (ursodeoxycholic acid, taurine, choline bitartrate, orotic acid hydrate, glucuronolactone, and betaine hydrochloride) in a single tablet.

In consultations, I sometimes hear from people who find it inconvenient to take liver-related ingredients and vitamins separately — 우르스정 is formulated so you can get both in one tablet. Some people also turn to it for vitamin supplementation when their energy is low during or after an illness, or when fatigue has been lingering.

The dosage is 1 tablet, 1 time per 1 day, for adults aged 19 and older. Please note that this product contains lactose, so anyone with a genetic condition such as galactose intolerance must not take it.

​

슈퍼라민콰트로정 contains 11 types of B-complex vitamins, including 6 active forms. Notably, it provides nerve vitamin B12 in generous amounts across two forms — cyanocobalamin and mecobalamin — and the inclusion of extra-high-dose magnesium in 3 forms (magnesium oxide, magnesium aspartate, and magnesium glycerophosphate) clearly reflects the character of this product.

Vitamin D is also included, so the South Korean approved indications extend to development of bones and teeth and prevention of rickets. Some people who tend to feel on edge and want to manage their overall condition ask about this product for its nerve vitamin content.

The dosage is 1 tablet, 1 time per 1 day, for those aged 15 and older. However, because this product contains magnesium and vitamin D, anyone with hypercalcemia, kidney disease, or kidney stones must not take it — if you have any of these conditions, please check with a pharmacist beforehand.

Both products share the same broad approved indications in South Korea, so the distinction below is not about one being superior — it's about differences in ingredient composition and intended purpose. If you need a rough guide, here's how to think about it.

● Age requirement: 콰트로정 is for those aged 15 and older, while 우르스정 is for those aged 19 and older, so 콰트로정 is the only option that applies to adolescents.

One more thing worth noting: if symptoms do not improve after taking either product for about 1 month, you should stop taking it and consult a doctor or pharmacist. Anyone taking phosphate salts, calcium salts, tetracycline-class antibiotics, antacids, or levodopa should not take these products at the same time.

Q. Can I take both at the same time? We don't recommend it. Both products contain overlapping B vitamins, so taking them together may result in duplicate ingredients. Please choose just one.

Q. Is 콰트로정 better than 우르스정? It's not so much that one is "better" — they simply have different ingredient profiles. 우르스 is weighted toward liver-related ingredients, while 콰트로 is weighted toward nerve vitamins and magnesium, so choose whichever suits your purpose.

Q. Can I take these while pregnant or breastfeeding? If you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant, or are breastfeeding, you must consult a doctor or pharmacist before taking either product. 콰트로정 in particular contains vitamin D, so extra care is needed when checking its suitability.

​

Q. My urine has turned yellow — is that okay? Yes, urine may turn yellow. This is a phenomenon explicitly noted in the approved labeling, so there is no need to worry.

​
